Traveling Raven

Born and raised in Kwikwetlem (Coquitlam), John's mixed roots stem from Europe, with German ancestry, and North-West Territories, with Dene ancestry. These contrasting lineages speak to his perspective, ability as an artist and affluence of different cultures.

Known as the Trickster, the Raven is one of the most familiar characters in Indigenous stories and culture. As the Raven has the power to transform itself or other beings, he is kindred with transformation and transition. The Raven’s mischief has led to him being a cultural hero who is respected for placing the moon and the sun in the sky, among other great accomplishments.
