    Shawn was born in Vancouver, BC and raised in Kitkatla. Kitkatla is one of the oldest communities on the Northwest Coast. Shawn is originally Tsimshian from the Gitxaala Nation. The classical Northwest Coast Formline and sculptures are where Shawn’s inspiration comes from. With his mother being Gitxaala and also an artist, Shawn was motivated to practice Northwest Coast art. He also draws inspiration from Roy Henry Vickers.

    Both revered and feared, the Killer Whale has a long history of being the hunter of the sea. The traits and characteristics of the Killer Whale are strength, dignity as well as prosperity and longevity. They are known to follow a matriarchal society, so we honour the mother Killer Whale for its resilience in nature.
